Afantastic experience awaits kids at the Huntington Beach Adventure Playground.
Located in Central Park, the Playground offers youngsters the opportunity to explore giant tires, climb on platforms, enjoy rafting and paddling inner tubes on the shallow pond, a rope walk, and even a mudslide! Different activities are offered every week.
Closed for a number of years due to drought and COVID-19, the Adventure Playground was renovated and reopened in 2023.
Many adults in Huntington Beach fondly remember our first Adventure Playground which opened in Central Park in an old gravel quarry in the early 1970s. Kids slid down a steep hill to a muddy lake, a rope swing and precarious structures they built themselves from donated materials. The idea came from 19th century tenements and later wartorn Europe where children were found enjoying the worlds they created from whatever came to hand, guided only by their own imaginations. Not surprisingly, our first Adventure Playground closed due to insurance concerns in 1975.
That imaginative spirit and celebration of adventure safely lives on at the current location.
The Adventure Playground is open Monday through Saturday (excluding July 4) from June 22 to August 17. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children from 5-12 are welcome and the cost per child is $4. Adults accompanying a child are free.
