FV SPORTS PARK EXPANSION

Body

The City of Fountain Valley is excited to announce a 50-year lease extension with the County of Orange for the Fountain Valley Sports Park.

A highlight of this lease extension is a 16-acre expansion of the sports park for future recreational development.

In 1973, the federal government quitclaimed HOLF Mile Square Field to the County of Orange, requiring that the property be dedicated in perpetuity to public park and recreational use. A condition of that quitclaim deed requires the County to lease a portion of the property to the City of Fountain Valley for 50 years, with additional 50-year renewal periods, contingent upon the city’s continued development of the site for park and recreations purposes.

The city portion is now known as the Fountain Valley Sports Park.

Over the past five decades, the Fountain Valley Sports Park and Mile Square Regional Park have become a vital part of our community. The 50-year extension ensures that residents will continue to enjoy public recreational access to facilities including the FV Recreation Center, Boys and Girls Club, sports fields, playgrounds, tennis and pickleball, special events and more.

The opportunity to expand our Sports Park through this lease extension allows our city to adapt to evolving recreational needs.

As part of the Parks Master Planning process, residents are encouraged to provide feedback on future development of the proposed site.

For example, residents have expressed a desire for more independent recreational opportunities, including a dog park, expanded fitness trails, additional pickleball courts, reservable event venues and more sports fields.

Through our collaboration with the County of Orange and OC Parks, the city is proud to support these growing community needs.
