MEET YOUR NEIGHBOR: SINGING GOODTIMER COREY SALTMAN

Body

Coreene 'Corey' Saltman has been an integral part of Fountain Valley since 1968 when she and her late husband were among the community's earliest homeowners.

With a musical background as a New England Conservatory of Music graduate, Saltman graced the stages of nightclubs and radio stations in her hometown of Boston before making the permanent move to Fountain Valley.

“I’ve been singing for all my life, and I want to keep singing for as long as I can,” she said.

Saltman was introduced to the musical troupe, the Singing Goodtimers, 23 years ago at a senior center event, opening the door to her musical pursuits in Fountain Valley. Within the group, she has served as the director of music and community outreach, organizing performances and planning social events for the members.

Established in 1971, the Singing Goodtimers troupe is a nonprofit organization sustained by donations, with every performance delivered by volunteers. Composed of Fountain Valley senior citizens, ages 60-100, the group performs countywide in hospitals, assisted living facilities, country fairs and more.

“The Singing Goodtimers are like a family we can count on -- anyone can join us and sing,” Saltman said.

The troupe’s performances feature music that spans various musical genres and eras. The troupe hopes to be able to expand its audience and perform on large stages such as the Children’s Area of Disneyland and at Knott's Berry Farm’s military celebration.

On Jan. 6, she will celebrate her 90th birthday with a party of 80 people at a local Huntington Beach restaurant, taking the stage once again.
