RETIRED SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Body

The Fountain Valley Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) offers residents aged 55 and older a unique opportunity to contribute to public safety and community well-being.

Established in June 1990 with nine volunteers, the program has grown to approximately 40 members who serve under the guidance of a police sergeant.

RSVP volunteers undergo comprehensive training that covers police department operations, radio procedures, defensive driving, and fingerprinting techniques. Upon completion, they are sworn in by the Chief of Police and commit to volunteering about 20 hours per month, including three patrols and a monthly meeting.

Their duties encompass a range of activities such as conducting vacation home checks, removing illegal signage, issuing parking citations, assisting at DUI checkpoints, and participating in community events like National Night Out and Summerfest. Additionally, they support code enforcement by identifying neighborhood violations and transporting official documents to the courthouse.

To join, applicants must be retired, reside locally, pass a criminal background check, and demonstrate a commitment to public service.

The next recruitment period is scheduled for late 2025, with a new class commencing in 2026. Interested individuals can submit an interest card through the Fountain Valley Police Department’s website.
