Fountain Valley High School is set to welcome “Le Sanctuaire,” its very own WellSpace, signaling a significant step in prioritizing student well-being and mental health.
As part of a countywide initiative addressing teen mental health, the safe space aims to alleviate stress and encourage mindfulness during the hectic school day, officials said.
Sponsored by the Orange County Department of Education and Children’s Hospital of Orange County, the Well-Space initiative emerged in response to escalating concerns about adolescent mental health, notably magnified by the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, county health officials said.
FVHS psychologist Cynthia Olaya championed the cause, advocating for student representation and input in the process of establishing student-centric wellness spaces.
The sanctuary concept features soothing activities and resources, including mindfulness apps, coloring stations, and comfortable seating.
The arrival of “Le Sanctuaire” is a testament to FVHS’s commitment to nurturing not just academic growth but also the mental well-being of its students and staff, school officials said.
