CITY FORGES AHEAD ON UNIVERSALLY ACCESSIBLE PLAYGROUND PROJECT

Body

The city and the Fountain Valley Community Foundation are collaborating on the first Universally Accessible Playground (UAP) and recreation area in Fountain Valley.

Designed to bring people together, a UAP is a sensory-rich recreational environment that enables children and adults of all abilities to develop physically, socially, and emotionally.

Centrally located at the Fountain Valley Sports Park, the playground will provide accessible and inclusive recreational amenities and is sure to become a highlight attraction for our residents and the surrounding community.

The Fountain Valley Community Foundation has secured more than $1.3 million in funding to date and expects to complete fundraising for the entire amount ($1.7 million) by the end of the calendar year.

We would like to thank Assemblyman Tri Ta and the 70th Assembly District office for securing $1 million in state funding as part of the 2023-24 fiscal budget and the state Office of Grants and Local Services for granting the city $211,000 as part of Prop. 68.

Groundbreaking for the playground is tentatively scheduled for October of 2023 and the UAP is expected to open to the community in the first quarter of 2024.
