The spirit of the season is alive and well in Fountain Valley

‘Tis the season for a variety of family-friendly holiday events in Fountain Valley.

Here’s a glance at what’s coming up this month.

Things kick off Saturday, Dec. 2 with the city’s annual Tree Lighting. The event is set for 4:30-8 p.m. at the Fountain Valley Sports Park. The event will feature games, crafts, food from local nonprofits, live entertainment, photos with Santa and the Hyundai Snow Zone.

The tree lighting is scheduled for 5:305:45 p.m.

“The tree lighting always brings the magic of winter and to see our community come out together is so much fun every year,” said longtime resident Allison Johns.

This year’s sponsors are the Fountain Valley Community Foundation, Lily Campbell Team, Republic Services, Farmers Insurance –Theresa Simes, Kingston Technology, Manfred Orthodontics and Fountain Valley Living.

“We go to the tree lighting every year,” resident Mike Pontrelli said. “This event is awesome. And I love the Snow Zone too.”

The Sports Park is at 16400 Brookhurst St. More information: Call (714) 593-4449.

The next day, on Sunday, Dec. 3, the Fountain Valley Schools Foundation will once again hold its Festival of Trees fundraiser from 1-4 p.m. at the Center at Founders Village Senior & Community Center.

Decorated, artificial holiday trees will be raffled off at the event, which will also feature holiday music, food and drink, and a performance by the Fountain Valley School District student choir.

Tree sponsorships and event tickets are available by going to the Fountain Valley Schools Foundation website at www.fvschools.org All proceeds directly support students in the Fountain Valley School District.

“The city celebrates the Christmas holidays in a big way,” said longtime city volunteer Tracy Cameron. “Not only do we have this Fountain Valley Community Foundation providing the distribution of coffee, cookies and hot chocolate at the tree lighting, but the Fountain Valley Schools Foundation also sponsors the Festival of Trees. This is a fabulous event that always sells out and all proceeds go to the Fountain Valley School District to support music and arts education.”

This year’s festival is set for Dec. 1-3 and will feature nativity reenactments, a gallery of inspirational artwork, live music performances from Orange County artists and a display of nativity scenes from around the world. Hours are 6-9 p.m. each day.

The live nativity performances occur every 30 minutes by actors from the community. For those interested in experiencing the live nativity in Spanish or Vietnamese, visit www.thecrecheoc.com
