“If it was easy, they wouldn’t call it work” is one of my favorite sayings. I’ve said this to colleagues and friends when presented with a challenge for as long as I can remember. I like to think I made it up and Google doesn’t attribute this phrase to anyone else, so I’m gonna tap-tap it until I’m told otherwise.
Publishing this magazine is somewhere in between. It’s a lot of work, but it’s made easier by the number of people who help make it happen. This issue contains articles by 12 different writers who have given their time and effort to provide you with information on topics ranging from high school sports, scouting, refinancing a home, police promotions, neighbors, our new mayor, and the Miss Fountain Valley competition.
We also have the help of 8 advisory board members, our editor Curt, page designer Beth, crossword author Sean, copy editor Marley and all the people who print, label, and mail the magazines you receive each month.
In addition to being a lot of work, it’s also very expensive to print & mail a “free” magazine to 25,000 homes and businesses each month. This is only made possible by the continued support of our advertisers. A majority of this month’s twenty-seven advertisers have supported Fountain Valley Living for 10+ years. A few have told me they support the magazine because it’s good for our community, but they all advertise because it is good for their business.
Finally, we have 97 Patrons who have donated money in 2023 to offset the cost of providing this magazine to everyone in town. If you aren’t yet a Patron, please consider becoming one. For as little as $25, we’ll add your name to the list of Patrons (page 29) and for $100+ you’ll also receive a Fountain Valley Living mug. Whatever their role, please let the people who make this magazine know you appreciate their help in making Fountain Valley a Nice Place to Live. We couldn’t do this without them.
