►Advisory Committee for Disabled Persons Dance is Aug. 4

The city’s next Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities Dance for Adults with Disabilities is set for Friday, Aug. 4 at the Center at Founder Village Senior & Community Center. The dance is set for 7-9 p.m. The event is open to adults, ages 18 and older. You do not need to be a resident of Fountain Valley to attend.

Cost is $1 per person, cash, paid at the door. No RSVP is necessary.

►National Night Out set for Aug. 6

The city will celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at the Fountain Valley Sports Park. Activities will begin at 6 p.m.

National Night Out is a police awareness- raising event that is held the first Tuesday of August and is intended to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, Neighborhood Watch, and other anti-crime efforts.

Those attending will have an opportunity to check out displays from the Fountain Valley Police and Fire departments.

National Night Out coincides with the city’s first Movie in the Park of the sum mer, “Elemental.” The movie begins at dusk.

►UAP Ribbon Cutting Set

The city’s long-awaited Universally Accessible Playground has opened at the Fountain Valley Sports Park. An official ribbon cutting will take place at 10 a.m. Aug. 9.

State Assemblyman Tri Ta secured a $1 million grant from the State of California, and Congresswoman Michelle Steel secured a $500,000 federal grant to help fund the project.

Monetary support also came from the Fountain Valley Community Foundation, FV Summerfest Committee, Memorial Care Orange Coast Medical Center, the Kiwanis Club of Fountain Valley, Fountain Valley Police and Fire Associations, Fountain Valley Rotary Club, Hyundai Cares, Republic Services, and Huntington Beach Host Lions Club.

Support also came from individuals, including Glenn and Mary Grandis, the Huebner family, Jay and Suzanne Seiden, Mike and Sue White, and Barbara Montz.

►Movie in the Park, “Toy Story 4”

The city’s second Movie in the Park this summer is set for Aug. 23 and will feature Disney Pixar’s Toy Story 4. Activities begin at 6 p.m. at Fountain Valley Sports Park. The movie begins at dusk.

►County Parks Concert Series

The OC Parks Summer Concert Series with free concerts at the county’s regional parks on Thursday evenings takes place through Aug. 25.

All events are from 5-8 p.m. and will include free parking with food and drink available for purchase. Concerts begin at 6 p.m.

Two concerts are set for Mile Square Regional Park: Ozomatli on Aug 1 and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on Aug. 8.

►Pins for Kids Tournament

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley and the FV Kiwanis Club are teaming up again to present the Pins for Kids Tournament at Fountain Bowl on Aug. 17.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with registration, taco bar dinner and ice cream cart by Fountain Valley Grocery Outlet. The bowling tournament begins at 6:30 p.m.

In addition to the traditional bowling tournament, an online auction to help raise funds at the event is also planned.
