In 2015, Carter Ankeny was diagnosed with leukemia one month before his fifth birthday.
Carter, the son of Fountain Valley residents, Jamie and Tim Ankeny, underwent chemotherapy at Children’s Hospital of Orange County for 21 months. But in 2017, Carter relapsed. He passed away because of a rare infection.
Carter, a student at Cox Elementary School, lived life with passion, tenacity, and immense love, all who knew him agree. His contagious smile and spirit won the hearts of many, and his attitude about life and ability to thrive in the face of cancer inspired all.
Even after he was diagnosed with leukemia, he continued to live life to its fullest -- enjoying baseball, football, dancing, music, Disneyland, games, school, and playing with friends and family.
The Ankenys have carried on his legacy by creating CarterStrongForever.
The National Cancer Institute only allocates 4 percent of feder al funding to childhood cancers. CarterStrongForever is planning an authors’ tea for Oct. 6 in Fountain Valley to raise funds for the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) which helps fill the deficit.
