Not every midlife crisis appears in the form of a red convertible. Mine’s an old Ford truck.
It has crank windows, no AC, and rides like a box on wheels. The gas mileage is so bad that it needs two tanks and doesn’t always feel like starting, but I love driving it all the same.
My girls dubbed my truck, “Boomer,” when I purchased it eight years ago. I was in my late forties at the time, which means I’m now squarely in the middle of my midlife.
Staying active is the best medicine for people my age and that’s the inspiration for this month’s cover story about day hikes. They’re low impact, no cost and accessible for all. Just put on your shoes, grab a hat and some water, and you’re good to go.
But if hikes aren’t of interest to you, this month’s issue also contains other articles about staying active including the Surf City Marathon, touring the USS Iowa, starting a vegetable garden, and staying overnight at the newly reopened Sturtevant Camp.
Here’s hoping you have an active March.
