The Fountain Valley High School Girls Volleyball Program hosted its Dig Pink event Oct. 7.

Dig Pink is a fundraising program that supports breast cancer research and treatments through volleyball events.

The event was held during the volleyball games and raised proceeds through a bake sale, raffle basket and special snack bar.

Proceeds benefit The Side-Out Foundation, which awards grants to medical research organizations for breast cancer patients and families. This year’s event touched the program personally, as a varsity player’s mom is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Each varsity player presented her with beautiful pink flowers. It was an emotional night for those in attendance.

The partnership with Dig Pink this year raised $1,200.

This season the varsity team, coached by Rebecca Cheltenham, finished with an above .500 record. This is an exceptional accomplishment, as the team plays in the very competitive Sunset League.

The girls’ hard work, commitment and great attitudes for the sport they love really shined through this season.

Fountain Valley High School Girls’ Volleyball Program would like to thank their local business sponsors who have donated generously over the past 2 years. They include realtor Lily Campbell, Mimi’s Jewelry, First Class Pizza, Sprouts, Sports Basement and Costco.
