LOS AMIGOS CHRISTENS NEW FOOTBALL FIELD WITH HOLLYWOOD ENDING VICTORY

Even when off strike, Hollywood writers could not have scripted a more dramatic ending.

Following the completion of its new $8 million athletic facility, Los Amigos High School played its first-ever onsite varsity football game, and the Lobos finished it off in style with a last-second 28-27 win over San Bernardino High School.

Trailing 27-13 late in the third quarter, the Lobos put together two methodical touchdown drives sandwiched around a defensive stop, with the last touchdown coming with 19 seconds left on a 20-yard pass from Chris Flores to Adrian Ramirez.

Los Amigos Coach Romel Guess rolled the dice and went for two, and Flores powered his way into the end zone as the Lobos pulled out the thrilling onepoint victory.

But just getting the game off the ground was a victory in itself. The facility, complete with a nine-lane synthetic track, a turf field and full LED lighting, was just completed at the start of August. The scoreboard wasn’t installed yet and not all the bleachers were set up.

But the Los Amigos staff and coaches were resolute in finding a way to make this occasion special for the students, athletes, and the community. And one by one they overcame each obstacle and found a way to put it all together.

“We put on a great show for the people in the community, and our players will have a memory of a lifetime,” Guess said. “We couldn’t have written it any better.”
