► Boys & Girls Clubs gala is Oct. 14
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley will hold their 45th annual Great Futures Start Here benefit dinner and auction on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach. Check-in begins at 5 p.m. for registered guests.
The Boys & Girls Clubs, with locations in FV & HB, hope to raise $750,000 at the event.
The event will include a salute to this year’s Champion of Youth, Tom Ross. Ross has spent his entire adult life as a donor and volunteer.
Among this year’s silent and live auction items are a 2023 Yamaha YZ250 motorcycle; a VIP table at the Great Pacific Air Show; a private hot air balloon ride for two; Lakers, Rams and other sports tickets; and getaways to Hawaii, Orlando, Vancouver, Malaysia and Washington DC, among other locations.
The online auction will feature more than 200 items and is scheduled to go live online beginning Oct. 6 and close at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14.

The Fountain Valley Fire Department will hold its annual open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Station 1, 17737 Bushard St.
This is an opportunity to see firefighters, fire trucks and ambulances, learn about fire prevention, have your photo taken in the photo booth area and enjoy lunch.
Firefighters will also demonstrate how the “Jaws of Life” are used to cut open a vehicle.

► Miss Fountain Valley competition info meeting is Oct. 28
A general information meeting about the upcoming Miss Fountain Valley 2024 Scholarship Competition will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Oct. 28 at Coastal Community Fellowship, 10460 Slater Ave.
The competition is open to young ladies ages 18-28 (by Dec. 31, 2024) who live, work or go to school in Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa or Westminster, or who attend UC Irvine, Cal State Long Beach, or Concordia University.
The Miss Fountain Valley Scholarship competition is a preliminary to the Miss America competition and is set for Feb. 4, 2024.

The Center at Founders Village Senior & Community Center will hold its 2023 Fall Dance from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27.
Live music will be provided by the Now and Then Band.
