Rotary, Kiwanis partner with Rise Against Hunger

Three local service clubs have joined forces to make a difference.

The Surf City Rotary Club of Huntington Beach, the Fountain Valley Rotary Club and the Fountain Valley Kiwanis Club have partnered with Rise Against Hunger to help feed starving people in developing countries.

Rise Against Hunger supplied the food and materials which volunteers assembled and packed for shipment. The food packets consist of rice, dry soy protein, dehydrated vegetables and a packet that contains seasonings and vitamins.

More than 100 volunteers from Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach descended on the Boys and Girls Club to help. These volunteers included members of the three service clubs, high school students and other community members.

“As the assembly was going on, milestones were called out. We reached 5,000 meals pretty quickly,” said Marla McGee of the Fountain Valley Rotary Club. “In just an hour and a half, we managed to pack 15,000 meals.”
