RESIDENTS ROCK AND ROLL IN THE PARK

Fountain Valley kicked off its annual Concerts in the Park series with a performance from The Dreamboats in the FV Sports Park. In the heart of the center stage dance floor, residents rocked and rolled to ‘50s and ‘60s classics, ranging from Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock” to Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba.”

The Dreamboats, consisting of four guitarists and one drummer, performed two sets of groovy, rockand- roll music while interacting with the crowd and even joining the dance floor.

Before the concert, Boy Scouts from Troop 567 led the flag ceremony. Miss Fountain Valley, Love Bradley, city staff and council members gathered on stage to recognize key contributors to the event and hand out inflatable balls and balloons to the crowd, both seated and standing, around the FV Sports Park lawn.

To accompany the music festivities, concertgoers explored the Chamber Expo, a row of booths set up nearby the stage hosting organizations such as the Recreation Center and Community Foundation. Other booths included local businesses ranging from restaurants to youth sports teams. Mayor Glenn Grandis and Councilmember Patrick Harper answered questions from residents at the Questions for the Mayor and City Council booth.

Several food stands were available to residents along with various lawn games for community members to test their cornhole skills and earn prizes.

The following week, the city hosted the Tijuana Dogs, a high energy rock and dance band. To conclude the Concerts in the Park series, DSB entertained crowds with their accurate recreations of musical classics from the American rock band Journey.

“These events are a great way to have the community come out and be together,” Harper said. “It’s great to see everyone out here, meeting their neighbors and having a good time.”

Grandis added to that same sentiment.

“All the different families can come out with their kids and parents to listen to great music, along with the Chamber Expo for residents to meet local businesses in the community,” Grandis said. “We would like to thank the Parks and Rec Department for putting this altogether … This is just the kickoff to summer, and the city has so many fun events planned.”
