There's No Place Like Home

Body

I’m writing this month’s column from my cabin aboard Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas. It’s my first cruise and I must admit, it’s pretty awesome. A large number of our fellow passengers are older and frequently cruise. For them, this isn’t a weeklong vacation, but rather the idealized retirement that many people aspire to.

Paying for retirement is expensive, even without the drinks with umbrellas. This month’s cover story about when to claim social security benefits provides some great advice for how to do that.

This issue also contains articles about HB muralist Melissa Murphy, FV’s Youth in Government event and a privately funded scholarship effort that supports local students.

And the issue includes an interview with FVHS’s new football coach, an article about how Rotary is helping neighboring communities plus a profile of retired NBC4 reporter Vikki Vargas. Fine dining, drinks by the pool, and a new island every day were a pleasant change. But like Dorothy said, “There’s no place like home.” We hope this month's issue reminds you of just how lucky we all are to live here.
