►Dennis Cole named Chief of Staff

Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) Superintendent Dr. Stefan Bean has announced the appointment of Fountain Valley resident Dennis Cole as his new chief of staff.

Cole, who joined OCDE in 2016, has cultivated a strong reputation for his expertise in fostering community partnerships. Since August 2020, he has served as the director of educational partnerships for OCDE’s Alternative Education program, known as ACCESS.

In the newly created position of chief of staff, Cole will help bridge gaps between the county superintendent’s office and OCDE’s divisions, the OC Board of Education and external partners.

“This position represents a significant opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our education system, and I am committed to leveraging our collective strengths to enhance the educational experience for every student,”Cole said.

►Blessings of the Animals on Oct. 5

All Saints Anglican Church is holding its annual Blessings of the Animals on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m.

St. Francis of Assisi loved all the animals as his sisters and brothers. We know you love your pets. Gift them a special blessing, in honor of their Patron Saint. Our priest, Fr. Enn Auksmann, will bestow blessings on all varieties of pets.

►Bingo Bash planned for Oct. 11

The Center at Founders Village Senior & Recreation Center will host a Bingo Bash on Friday, Oct. 11, 6 p.m.

An all-ages ticket is $20 and includes 24 bingo cards, one dauber, one ticket for a non-alcoholic beverage and dinner. Alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase.

Registration is required either online or in person. Dinner is not guaranteed for those registering after Sept. 27. Founders Village is at 17967 Bushard St. More information: (714) 593-4444.

►Hall of Fame Banquet is Oct. 12

The Fountain Valley Sports Hall Fame will induct former Fountain Valley High School players, coaches and teams on Oct. 12 at the Center at Founders Village Senior & Community Center.

This year’s event will also include the inductions of longtime athletic contributors Mike and Kristie Musso. The event begins with a cocktail hour at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the ceremony starting at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $50 per person, which includes dinner.

Residents of Fountain Valley are invited to attend this year’s Fire Department Open House scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, at Fire Station 1 located at 17737 Bushard Street, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign is “Smoke Alarms, Make Them WORK for You!” Come join us and tour the fire station, see a working ambulance along with fire trucks. There will be an area for photos, games, and prizes along with a free hot dog lunch and the Jaws-of-life and fire extinguisher demonstrations. ►Cars ‘n’ Copters is Oct. 13

Whether you love to enter your vintage car in shows or simply admire other people’s treasured vehicles, Cars ‘n’ Copters on the Coast is for you.

It takes place Sunday, Oct. 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the parking lot at 21351 Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach.

Free to spectators, the family-friendly fundraiser benefits the Huntington Beach Police and Community Foundation.

Cars ‘n’ Copters exhibits more than 400 cars of different makes and models — including hypercars such as Mclarens, Lamborghinis and Astons.

And, as the name of the event says, it also features helicopters.

►3rd annual Robyne's Nest Chili

Cook Off is Oct. 12

The third annual Robyne’s Nest Chili Cook Off is set for 5-10 p.m. Oct. 12 in Huntington Beach.

The event features amateur and professional chefs competing for the prestigious title of “Chili Champion.” Those attending can indulge in an array of mouthwatering chili recipes, ranging from mild to daring, while enjoying live music, entertainment, food and drink, gift baskets and more.
