Ocean View School District (OVSD) is off to a strong and inspiring start to the school year, marked by award-winning programs, expanded family services, and a continued commitment to student success.
From state recognition in the arts to new supports for working families, the district is demonstrating how innovation and excellence go hand in hand.
This year, several OVSD schools, the district, and individual staff members have earned prestigious state and national recognition.
Most recently, Marine View Middle School received the 2025 California School Boards Association (CSBA) Golden Bell Award for its Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program, “Building Artists, Allies, and Aspirations through VAPA.” The honor highlights the school’s dedication to fostering creativity, collaboration, and confidence in students while preparing them for future opportunities in the arts.
Marine View’s program creates a meaningful pathway for students to continue their artistic journey, including transition opportunities to the Academy of the Arts in the Huntington Beach Union High School District, which also earned a Golden Bell Award this year for its outstanding arts program.
In addition to academic and programmatic achievements, OVSD is expanding services that directly support families. The district is now offering free after school childcare for all students in transitional kindergarten through sixth grade. This new service provides families with a safe, structured, and convenient option for students after the regular school day, operating on school campuses until 6:00 p.m.
Through a partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Huntington Valley, OVSD is better able to accommodate family schedules while ensuring high-quality care in a familiar environment. After school childcare programs operate daily and include homework time, supervised outdoor play, engaging enrichment activities, and other opportunities like the popular Skate Dogs program, which blends learning and fun.
OVSD also offers transitional kindergarten at all 10 of its elementary schools. Students who turn 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2026, are eligible.
Transitional kindergarten is the first year of a two-year kindergarten experience designed to better prepare children for a strong educational foundation. Students who complete the program attend kindergarten the following school year with increased confidence, social skills, and readiness to learn.
Together, these accomplishments and services reflect Ocean View School District’s unwavering commitment to excellence, equity, and the success of every student.
