For more than 70 years, the Philharmonic Society’s youth music education programs have inspired nearly 7 million young lives across Orange County through enriching programming and a diverse array of opportunities.

Provided free of charge to all schools, these programs offer unique experiences essential for building a foundation of appreci-ation and enthusiasm for music that can last a lifetime.

Each season, the society presents artists and orchestras who set the standard for artistic achievement, from Itzhak Perlman and Yo-Yo Ma to the Vienna Philharmonic.

A key youth program, the exceptional OC Youth Symphony and String Ensemble, provides top-tier training to the area’s most talented young musicians.

These programs are made possible by the Committees of the Philharmonic Society, composed of 450 volunteer members who provide more than 90,000 hours of in-kind service each year.

This year, the Philharmonic Society awarded a $250 grant to Gisler Elementary music teacher Vincent Paule to buy rhythm sticks, jingle bells, small shakers, and primary rhythm sticks for an entire class of transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students.

Students read specially created music on the screen and listen as they count and play together. They have learned to organize their packet of instruments, treat them carefully and know when to play them. Playing music helps children improve in all learning areas, including cooperation and attention to others.

The grant benefits 500 students and is made possible by the Philharmonic Society’s Musical Reinvestment program, which allows the Huntington Valley West Committee to use 10% of its fundraising profits to give back to the community.
