With passes and shots flying across the field, the AYSO Region 5 Fountain Valley 14U Boys All-Stars — known as the Wild Cards — gave it their all in their latest appearance at the highly competitive 2025 AYSO Western States Tournament in Corona, California, earning an impressive third-place finish and clinching multiple regional and sectional championships along the way.
Early in the season, the Wild Cards advanced to the finals of the Annual Fountain Valley HI5 Tournament, narrowly missing the title in a tense penalty shootout. They quickly rebounded, going on to win the Area K Championship and capture the coveted Section 11 Championship Cup with victories over strong teams from Huntington Beach, Imperial Beach, Mission Viejo and Lakewood.
Their recent success at the Western States Tournament was made possible through the dedication of their coaching staff. Congratulations to Head Coach Duc Tran, Assistant Coach Alex Martinez and Team Manager Holly Tieu for their leadership and support throughout the season.
The team’s achievements wouldn’t have been possible without the commitment and effort of the players: Cristian Castellon, Christopher Yeung, Damian Martinez, Eric Truong, Evan Duong, Hamza Shafoat, Jayden Pham, Josiah Ayala, Justin Hoang, Kardin Nguyen, Landon Ly, Lincoln Kakimoto, Mathis Tieu, Phillip Vo and Tanay Sharma.
The Wild Cards’ journey has been inspiring, and the community is proud to support them as they prepare for the 2025 AYSO National Tournament, scheduled for July 20–27 at the Great Park in Irvine.
